Why was this web necessary?

The goal of this web site is to help satisfy the curiosity that many laypeople have about oenology and viticulture. We want to explain the evolution of concepts that, through practice, study and observation, we have developed and in this sense, these pages also help me, Josep Lluis Pérez, to satisfy my personal desire to make our modest achievements known so that if anyone wants to benefit from them, they can do it.  Moreover, I would also like to raise some current topics for reflection and discussion so that we can little by little see the light. This deductive process will allow us to go deeper into the particularities of each discipline, participative and necessary, to finally achieve the art-wine.

Through TECHNICAL means we will look for or create the tools to carry out what we have in mind.

SCIENCE gives us the necessary tools to generate ideas. Basic knowledge is fundamental to understand and elaborate new concepts in the construction of this abstract world which takes us beyond the present reality (hypotheses).

ART is the discipline we use to transfer our sensitivity to the final “work” .

Man is a whole and we cannot separate knowledge from sensitivity. We need techniques and science so as to create our “work” and we need art to shape it.

In order to describe our concepts and the paths we have followed to get to them, we are not going to keep to the conventions of a book divided into well-defined chapters but, in the “technical matters” section, some articles are going to be inserted where we will develop conceptually the experiences that have made us understand the different stages we have gone through.

I do believe that the most important aspect of what we are going to present is the way of interpreting the observations rather than the contents themselves. We aim at scientific logic and put aside the taboos that paralyse any kind of evolution.

We will try that all the scientifico-technical contents, resulting from experience, have a final examination: “the elaboration of a wine”.

We have a shop where these wines can be purchased. There we only commercialise wines that have a TECHNICAL interest (how they have been made) and an ARTISTIC interest (in an organoleptic sense). What we mean is:

For about four years now we have conceptually been trying to separate the technical and the artistic side in winemaking. Techniques and science enable us to help the vine optimise its genetic expression and so we can obtain the grape quality expected. The goal is to obtain a collection of different wines in every harvest. These wines are of an extreme aromatic and gustatory complexity. We call this line “Martinet Degustació”. It consists of wines we are going to launch on the market no matter whether they are finished or not.

Taking this collection as a point of departure, we will invite an ARTIST, knowledgeable about wines or not, depending on their education and sensitivity in tasting wines, to do what artists do, to compose the picture, in this case, the wine. We call this line “Martinet Especial”.

There will be another line of wines that will not be regular. Those wines will come from different projects we are involved in and that we believe have a strong technical or artistic value and that can be of interest for those who want to learn or simply want to satisfy their curiosity. These wines will have the label of the original winery.

How are the wines presented?

  • Martinet Degustació: The difference in each wine is given by the variety and maturity level but other distinctions can be made. We will explain this here in due time. On the back label there is a summary of the processes affecting the vines and the elaboration of the wine.
Each individual wine in this collection will be dealt with in detail on the web page. There will be information about the processes in the vegetative cycle as well as information about the goals defined for grape production. We will do the same with the vinification process. At the end of the process, we will present an analysis of the evaluation of results.
The wines will generally be launched on the market three months after their vinification  so that they can be tasted and a sample will be kept to be compared with the same wine after ageing and also with the wines resulting from the artist’s coupage.
  • Martinet Especial: On the label of these wines the name of the artist, of the wine composer, will be highlighted. This is a concept we have been thinking about for long since it is obvious we have to distinguish the ARTIST from the PATRON.
Unless we take ARTISTS into consideration, we will never be able to understand wine as a WORK OF ART.
For these wines there will be no back label. There will be no explanation of the wine on the web. We consider that the artist is not concerned about variety percentages, or acidity, or alcohol content or anything that can be quantified. The final composition they choose is based purely on their sensitivity; it is not a result of a rational process.

Apart from the “technical matters” section, we also have a place for ideas and thoughts we would like to share with you.
