University experts from all over the country will meet in Muro to discuss vine and olive small properties known as minifundios and the benefits of Mediterranean culture and diet. The conferences, organised by the University of Alicante, the City Council, the Agriculture Regional Ministry, and Celler La Muntanya winery, were held on 25 and 26 April. 250 participants were expected.

The oenologist Josep Lluís Pérez (owner of Mas Martinet and Cims de Porrera) came up with the idea, whose implementation is supervised by Grupo Peñín and La Melonera companies. The latter is located in Ronda, Andalusia, where an original project is being carried out: vine growing among holm and cork oaks.

It often happens that specialists of disciplines completely unrelated to ours are the ones who, frequently by chance, help us discover the key to go on with clearer ideas and renewed energies.
One of these people is Josep Lluís Pérez, who kindly accepted our invitation to speak at the opening session of TAP B at ETSAV, in which students where asked to design a winery at the foot of Serra de Collserola, in the outskirts of Barcelona.

Barcelona’s municipal wine is quite promising. Last Thursday four of the best sommeliers in the city, brought together by EL PERIÓDICO, had an exclusive wine tasting session where the first vintage could be examined. In spite of its youth, the wine got a high punctuation.

 In just a few years, the former university professor of human biology in Geneva (Switzerland), Josep Lluís Pérez Verdú (Quatretondeta, Alicante, 1936) has turned the ordinary wine of El Priorat in the province of Tarragona into a cult wine according to European specialists.

Although there were other possible methods, 20 years ago the safest method to get to know Priorat wines was in combination with gaseosa (a typical fizzy soft drink). In contrast, nowadays this terrible legend has been demolished and these wines are among the most appreciated wines by specialists and the demands of the market.
