Author wines

Currently all world wines can be classified into two lines:

  • Wines from Old Europe
These are classic wines, of great strength, that take us back to the past. They have a strong character and personality. They are closely connected with their history and their soil. These are wines that try to explain that soil and climate are the most important factors for the viticulturalist. Through them we can perceive the place and vineyard where they come from.
European wines search their personality and differentiation in the terroir, not in varietal genetics. The different varieties though are a way of emphasising the history and behaviour of past viticulturalists in their search for the most adaptable varieties to that terroir.
Institutional regulations clearly show this. They are fixed in time and limit any evolution. All viticultural activities are described and printed. There can be no changes in time associated with human activity. The changes the wine reflects can only be the result of climate changes since these are the only ones that are not subject to rules or norms and cannot be predicted but the number of buds, production, plantation frames, etc, that is to say, all that can be associated with human activity is fixed.
  • Wines from the New World
They come from classic European wines but they differ in the conceptual modernity of the use of genetically improved vine varieties and the use of technology to produce pleasant wines with viable production costs.
Unlike the abstract “terroir” concept, the “varietal” concept is much simpler and easier to transmit (variety / wine). For the expert consumer it is much easier to identify a varietal wine than a wine influenced by its terroir.
When a region starts anew, it is logical to plant those varieties that come from regions where they have already shown their quality. And this is how it works, since most of the varieties found in the New World come from Bordeaux and Burgundy.
The New World does not want to be tied down by norms and its goals are business-driven. Producers there want to make quality wines that are attractive to the client and have a good quality-price ratio. There are huge productions and tight benefits. Technology sets the standards of production.

For some time Mas Martinet Assessoraments has been working on a third line of wines that could be called:

  • Author wines
We know that the soil, climate and methods used have an influence on the genetic code of any variety and these variables play a part in leaving a stamp on the wine character but this is something inconstant. What makes wine possible is man. We are against the cliché that “there is a man behind each bottle of good wine”. We would like to change this and claim that that man is not behind but at the head of it. He is its creator. He is the one harmonizing the different elements that make up a good wine.
The crux of the elaboration of these wines is man. We believe in evolution and claim that each generation should contribute in a technical, scientific, or artistic way because this is what wine is: “the result of man applying his intellect and sensitivity to the vine and its environment and also to the wine as the main theme.”
This line of wines is born thanks to many technological advances that enable us to keep tight control of the vineyard. Man’s greatest effort lies on the intellect. His goal is to comprehend the whole vine physiology and act accordingly. For this line important investments in R&D&I are needed.
The studies done in the last fifteen years have led us to define a new path with clear limits. We have specified the different works on the vine for vigour control. This enables us to produce grapes of specific morphological characteristics, which will allow a homogeneous maturity of each berry in the cluster.
Because of this, harvest is brought in at different maturity levels so as to obtain many different wines.
So far everything is technical. We have prepared different wines for the ARTIST who will blend them according to their own taste, as a painter would do with colours. Science and technology have prepared the base but the final composition belongs to another level, that of sensitivity, that of ART.
